The last week the weather has yet again been somewhat unsettled, with lots of rain and sprinkling of sunshine, and hardly any wind. The temperatures have fluctuated between 17C and 26C degrees during the day, and nighttime temperatures have been around 10 degrees. The atmospheric pressure has been high, hovering around the 1028mbp mark. The carp are very mobile at the moment frequently visiting most parts of the lakes on a daily basis and they are often being seen in large numbers in the early hours (3am till 5am) so getting up early can give you a real edge. The fish are loving the upper layer due to warm water temperatures, so don’t forget you zig and floater gear as this will often get you a bonus fish or two, during the less prolific times of day.

Mat B has been getting amongst a few in the last 2 weeks landed 8 fish all over 20lbs and to top it of 2 a teamer in the form of “sally’s fish” and the “queen” simple bottom baits over plenty of bug boilies is doing the do for Mat. Kenny carries on his fantastic run of form this time landing 3 fish up to 30lb and Shaun landed 2 fish to over 20lb and lastly Neil has been landing a few in the past week or 2 up to 29lbs.
Now to River, the coarse lake. The fishing continues to be top notch with plenty of carp, bream, tench and big roach being landed daily, with the odd chub and specimen size perch, chucked in for good measure. All tactics are scoring well at the moment, including feeder, float and pole fishing . The carp seem to be favoring the central areas such as peg 2, 3, 11 and 12 and the tench seem to be in the margins and in the corners in pegs 4 and 16. The best bait for the tench at the moment seems to be 12mm boilies or large cubes of meat. Tyler Coulton Has been enjoying this fantastic sport recently and this trip was no different landing 46 fish including 16 tench to over 4lb and carp up 9lb, Yellow mainline pineapple wafter over a mix of pellets and krill ground bait has been the winning method.
The Viking's top tips
1. The weather is up and down, and the fish don’t know weather they are coming or going so fish for a bite at a time until we get some settled carpy conditions then will be the time to give them some good quality bait.
2. Don’t forget your zig and floater gear. Be patient finding the fish and feed the birds off and the bites will come.
3. Be mobile and reactive, as the fish are often on the move and if you are not on them you simply won’t catch them. also, if the fish are in the upper layers and you are fishing on the bottom you need to react and change methods to suite.
4. Don’t leave home without your solid bag bucket this is a massively successful tactic at all times of the year.
5. Be prepared for the changeable weather ( Water proofs, sun cream, hat, water ect)
6. Remember effort = reward
Don’t forget...
